Monaco
Monaco: Casino de Monte-Carlo
The Casino de Monte-Carlo opened in 1863 under Prince Charles III, and in 1866 the district was named Monte-Carlo in his honor. Charles Garnier, architect of the Paris Opéra, worked on the 1878–79 expansion, and Monaco's own citizens are barred from the gaming rooms. Go after dark, when the facade is fully lit. The tours below leave from Nice.
